Thanks to everyone for the responses regarding an internal Tire Pressure Management System. ?I found a company that had a few unsold Smartire for motorhome units and I ordered one with internal sensors for eight (8) wheels. ?I am getting new Michelins through the Monaco International program in a few days.

Thanks again.

TPMS (181572)

Post by Yahoo_Upload » 17 Feb 2014 14:12

I have my new tires on order and will be having Dyna Beads installed at the same time.

Now I am looking at the TPMS and have it narrowed down to either Pressure Pro or Tire-SafeGuard. If you know about both products please give me your feedback. Also, since I am having new tires installed, is there a better stem valve mount you recommend?

Here are my recommendations.

?

Borg Valve Stems – I installed 6, two for the steer and 4 on the drive axle. They all face the correct direction so there’s no problem with TPMS sensors.

?

I have not used the PP system however they have not kept up with the marketplace with replaceable batteries. I have used Doran RV360 and it is junk. I now use Tire SafeGuard and after multiple trips without and problems that I was having with Lost Signals, I am a happy camper.

When you say "does temp too", are you referring to alerting you when any tire has a high temp? I know Tire-SafeGuard has that alert and that the batteries are user replaceable.

Pressure Pro has better or at least re-designed seals.? I have been very pleased with mine.? It is “older” technology.? However, you can adjust the alarm limit percentage
which is a feature that should be used depending on WHEN you “aired up”.

?

Some of the other brands let your set the pressure from the console.? This is also OK.? The Pressure Pro “zero’s” the console or the monitor assuming that when you install it, it is inflated to the proper pressure.

?

Many have the Doran which is a knock off of the Pressure Pro.? Others are using newer ones
.with replaceable batteries.? If you want to use them on your Toad, then very small tires MIGHT be susceptible to balance issues.

?

As to stems.? Bill Borg sells the best set.? They will run you $120 for a set.? They are all brass and nickel plated.? He supplies them custom for each MH.? You give him the wheel size and the size and shape of the knockout.? He has a special O-Ring set for the inner steel wheel.? That works great.? He includes a grommet to center the stem in the outer one.? He also supplies the outers with a special DOUBLE (105 deg) bend that works great with TPMS.? The front ones are the standard 548’s and the rear outers are 548’s with a double bend.

?

Good luck.

Tony,

?

Remember, the “TEMP” feature is RELATIVE.? It is measuring the air temperature of what is in the stem.? If you want TRUE internal tire temperatures, you would need a system like the SmarTire that has INTERNAL temperature as well as pressure sensors.

?

Pressure Pro has an OVER PRESSURE alarm.? It is calculated at 125% of the Standard or Inflated Proper Pressure.

?

I have run the tables using the standard PV=nRT for many pressures and the 25% OVER PRESSURE or HIGH PRESSURE alarm is perfect.? It will alert you WHEN the tire is building up pressure.? Typically, if the tire reaches 195 – 200, then it is dangerous.? Unless the Temp Sensor on the EXTERNAL monitor is set MUCH lower, but the time the air column gets hot
.you are probably in trouble.

?

Please READ how that works
.and remember the physics of it.

?

This, IMHO, is one of those
REALLY NICE MARKETING FEATURES
.with very low value and subject to so many factors that I would NOT trust it.

?

BUT, an OVER PRESSURE (maybe in the 22 – 24%) range
assuming that my tires were properly inflated that day for the Cold Inflation Pressure, is VERY VALUABLE.

?

If you can download the SmarTire manual, it has an excellent explanation of temp and pressure
.

Tom,

I saw the Smart Tire manual but I also noticed that they no longer offer the Smart Tire system for RVs and have ceased support of it.
