Backup Camera Replacement (265138)

Post by Yahoo_Upload » 02 Dec 2019 05:13

I'm replacing all my cameras, and am wondering if anyone on forum has replaced their original Panasonic backup (rear view) camera and found an adapter or pin-out diagram for the connector.? It is similar to a S-Video connector, but not exactly the same.? Besides having 8-pins, its location tab system is different from 8-pin Mini Din round connectors I've found online.? I was hoping to either procure a new plug, and wire it to my new camera, or cut the old plug off the old camera, and solder appropriate connectors onto it so I can connect to my new camera.? Any advise out there, besides run a new cable or use wireless? Thanks,?? -Rick N.2005 Exec, DD Series 602014 JGC Overland DieselColorado Springs, CO

Rick,I’ve had good luck talking with RVCams?(866) 714-8916. I replaced my backup system thru them via adapter cables they had.Bob Dinsmore2000 DiplomatOn Dec 2, 2019, at 3:11 PM, REJ rej@... [Monacoers] wrote:Rick,I installed one of these

Rick, I totally agree with Ron Jones.? I installed one of these systems a couple of years ago.? No problems since then.? There is much I could say, but two things are most important. ?1) This camera system has a MUCH smaller angle of view.? The typical rear camera has such a wide fisheye lens that it is virtually useless as a rREAR-VIEW camera.? It's OK for backing up slowly, even though it makes trees about 12" from your coach look like they are six feet away.? If you depend on the old-style camera to warn you of vehicles approaching you closely from behind, you will only see them when they are right on your rear.? Vehicles that are only a few car-lengths behind appear only as tiny specks on your monitor.? This Total Vision Systems camera is the ONLY one (to my knowledge) that has an angle-of-view that more closely mimics what you would expect if your coach could have a rearview MIRROR.I find that I use the tilt/pan feature less than I expected (even though in difficult backing situations, it is certainly valuable).? For all the time I have spent behind the wheel of these beasts, I am still always embarrassed by the misjudgments I've made when backing.? My friend Craig French could back a triple-jointed off-road trailer-train up a mountain with hairpin turns, using nothing but mirrors...and his wife Angie is almost that good.? Me?...I'm lucky to make it into an easy back-in spot in one try.? LOL.2) The support I got from Rod Thomas at Total Vision was above and beyond.? I had an installation problem that I smugly assumed could only be a problem with Rod's system.? In spite of my insistence that the problem was with Rod's system, he very gently but consistently pointed me to the REAL problem--a wire connection in a tiny connector that I had botched.? I cannot say enough about Rod's support.? He is a gentleman and a camera wizard. The Total Vision system is noticeably more expensive than almost anything out there.? But I am sooo glad I decided on it.? Unfortunately, its cabling is not compatible with any kind of adapters.? You DO have to run the multi-conductor cable all the way front to rear.? It can be easier than you think.? I'll talk offline with you about it if you decide to go with Total Vision.Van W? 2000 Dynasty 36Southeastern NC

Backup Camera Replacement (265147)

Post by Yahoo_Upload » 02 Dec 2019 09:23

This is a generic post on the subject. When i replaced my cameras i went to a local AUTO video/audio shop and was amazed at the selection. They have the equipment to trouble shoot as well. They came to the coach and did the install as well. Paul A

Attachments :Reversible Video Camera.jpgCamera Back up Monator.jpgI redid my camera system from 1 to 4 cameras. The cable from front to back has around 6 or 8 pairs of wires. I just hooked my cameras to the cable and I now have 4 cameras. 1 high, 1 license plate, 1 on either side. I ran the wires to a terminal block , that I hooked to the power and cameras. the cameras I got on ebay, they swivel so I can aim them where I want. And I got a 9" monitor that displays all or 1 camera at a time. I also added a switch in the dash that I can turn them on while I'm driving, and check up on my Toad.I have around $150.00 invested in the system.Just_John97 Dynasty 40', 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Thanks John, Ron,? & Van,??I have three camera I plan to use - its an inexpensive cam.? My real question was if any one had reused the RGB cable that things from the rear cameras thi the converter box behind the dash. It sounds like maybe John did.? If so, are there shield wires inside the cable???Van, that camera is intriguing.? I'm going fo look into it,? but right now I'm just looking to restore the functionality of the coach.?Ron, i thought you got a camera system that "sees" all around the coach, similar to what Cadillac had.? I though it was 4 cams, and the output of the individual cans was "stitched" together such that you ended up with a full 360* view sound the vehicle.? Was that someone else?? I don't think there was a price stated, but I'm sure it is in the $1,000's.??? - Rick N?2005 Exec, DD Series 602014 JGC Overland Diesel?Colorado Springs, CO?Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Rick, I have reused the Panasonic style cable for what seems to be your scenario, used it with a simple car backup camera. If you cut the cable, yes, there is a shielded lead for video and a number of color coded wires to go along it. Since you'll cut the converter side as well, just pick a couple for power. I do have the pinout somewhere, I think, but it does not really matter. Just make sure that it is a backup camera unless your display can swap the picture orientation. Ivan K, 2000 Signature
Thanks John, Ron, & Van,
I have three camera I plan to use - its an inexpensive cam. My real question was if any one had reused the RGB cable that things from the rear cameras thi the converter box behind the dash. It sounds like maybe John did. If so, are there shield wires inside the cable?
Van, that camera is intriguing. I'm going fo look into it, but right now I'm just looking to restore the functionality of the coach.
Ron, i thought you got a camera system that "sees" all around the coach, similar to what Cadillac had. I though it was 4 cams, and the output of the individual cans was "stitched" together such that you ended up with a full 360* view sound the vehicle. Was that someone else? I don't think there was a price stated, but I'm sure it is in the $1,000's.

Rick,I have re-used the original cable for a new camera system as well and everything worked out. I would caution you, however that new cameras and their drivers (often within the display) are very sensitive to crossed wires and you will likely burn something up immediately if you cross a wire. And if you burn something up there may be no fixing it unless you have the exact schematic for your camera/display system.Good luck.Jamie'03 HR Scepter 40 PDT'18 Ford Fusion Hybrid TOADThanks John, Ron,? & Van,??I have three camera I plan to use - its an inexpensive cam.? I redid my camera system from 1 to 4 cameras.

Thanks Jamie,?I'm assuming you had the Panasonic RBG camera with the converter box up front also.? Were there 3 shielded wires in the cable (along with other wires)? Were they different colors? The is only 3 wires, 4 if you count the shield, to connect - doesn't sound like a long of opportunity for error, unless they are all the same color.?? - RickSent from Yahoo Mail on Android
