295/80/22.5 Vs 11R22.5 (98993)

Post by Yahoo_Upload » 13 Mar 2011 03:41

help me settle a discussion with some neighbours. If the load range H(weight carrying capacities) and diameters are within reason can I use 11R's in place of my GY RV670 on the drive axle?

Don, I am using the 11R22.5 all around and they are working out fine. That tire's dimension is the same as the 295/80R22.5. I have not really noticed a difference in the ride, even though they have to be run at a higher pressure (about 10# higher in my case). It sure is a less expensive way to go.

Don,

The load range is only equal for equal sized tires. The 11R22.5 is not the same size as the 295 80R22.5 so the load range H for both tires is different. I don't have the chart handy but the 11R is about 1000 pounds shy per tire of the 295.80 tires in capacity.

Joe,

The diameter is almost the same, the tread is almost the same but the carrying capacity across the board of pressures is less. Your Windsor originally had 275 size tires and in 2002 the Windsor tires were increased in size to the 295 80R22.5 to achieve a larger margin of safety in carrying capacity. You are probably OK with the 11R22.5 tires but they don't have the same capacity.

Don & Bill D

Here is the data from the Michelin Load & Inflation tables:

11R22.5 LRH at 110 PSI 6320 Single / 11790 Dual

XZA2 Energy 295/80 222.5 LRH at 110 PSI 7300 Single/ 12950 Dual

As Bill noted, not the same load capacity at all.
